Inspired by my desire to communicate in the absence of spoken words I paint with the intention to convey meaning through color, shape and movement. The images in this work have been drawn from the exploration of a landscape, which seems familiar, yet remains ambiguous. I work with the intent to encounter, investigate, portray and explicate an emotional experience. When I paint, I try to keep emotional awareness in the forefront relying on intuition to guide my decisions of color and shape. I feel my way through painting. The work is purposefully obscure in order to foster transference in the viewer. Most recently, paintings blend the landscape in washes of color. Through this method, impressions of horizon and sky are exposed. Color fuses in such fashion as to evoke a feeling of movement in paint across the canvas. Contrast in light is infused to reveal the dramatic nature of an ever changing skyline. Through vagueness in color, shape and line I appeal to the viewer to seek out a connectedness of experience. |
